Glossary · record convention

Effective date

Also: effective

The effective date is the day a change takes effect as the filing states it: the day an officer starts in the role or leaves it. It can fall before or after the filing date. The record keeps the precision the filing gives, a day, a week or a month, and never shows a month as a day. When the filing hedges, with words such as "on or around" or "the earlier of," the record gives the month only; when the filing states no date, the field is documented-unknown with the reason. A future effective date means the change is disclosed but not yet in force, so the company page shows the outgoing officer until then. This is the record's own convention, set out in the methodology.
