Transition

On CFO Tribune, a transition is a CFO change where one filing reports both the outgoing officer and a permanent successor. The record names both, and the headline says the incoming officer is to succeed the outgoing one. A filing that reports a departure with no successor is a departure; one that names an officer on an interim or acting basis is an interim move; one that names a new officer with no predecessor in the filing is an appointment. A transition counts as a seat filled in the reports. The same person cannot be on both sides of a transition, because that is not a change in the seat. This is the record's own convention, set out in the methodology.
